Joe started his career at Gruntal & Co., as Senior Vice President. He was a top producer and was tasked with building Gruntal’s Corporate Finance Department. Joseph left Gruntal & Co. and founded Nichols, Safina, Lerner & Co. Inc. (NSL) – a New York Based Broker Dealer.
As CEO of NSL, he navigated the firm from a start-up into a 200 employee, multi-location company. NSL participated in billions of dollars in financings with syndicate partners, such as Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Salomon Brothers, and Goldman Sachs. Joe also headed up NSL’s trading desk, making markets in hundreds of stocks. NSL’s team of experts were regularly featured on CNBC’s Buy, Sell and Hold, Tech Talk, Power Lunch, and Bloomberg television. Joe was also profiled as one of the top ten Bankers in the country in R.J. Shook’s The Winners Circle.
He later sold his interest in NSL and went on to form Safina Asset Management. Joe has over 30 years experience in Investment Banking; working with public and privately held small to mid cap companies. He’s been instrumental in large-scale fund-raising, M&A activities, business development, marketing and financial management. Joe was recently invited into the Forbes Finance Council.
